STAY SAFE ONLINE
How can I help my child to be safe?
Technology is developing at such a fast pace. Children use phones, gaming devices and computers so much of the time, both at home and (with restrictions) in the school setting too. Whilst these devices are amazing, they also bring a range of security and safety issues, which, as protective and caring adults we need to be aware of.
When our children start a new club or activity we ask where the club is, what our child will do there and with whom. We want to know they will be taking part in safe activities with trusted adults.
We need to ask the same questions every time our children use the internet, either on a tablet, a phone, a Switch, a laptop or a gaming system like the Xbox. Ask your child…
Where do you go online? What sites do you visit? Are they age appropriate?
Who do you talk to or play with online?
What do you do online? Are they chatting, sharing photos, uploading videos, playing games.
Regularly check what your child is doing or who they are interacting with.
You can visit the following sites for more tips, links and information about where to get help if you have concerns about your child’s internet use
You can also download the National Online Safety app for free from the App Store or Google Play. Created by experts for online safety knowledge available at your fingertips, the NOS app empowers parents to understand and address online safeguarding risks – any time, anywhere.
Click the CEOP button below for advice if you suspect your child has been or is being abused online. This button takes you to the Police Exploitation site who will advise as to what course of action is most appropriate. You are also able to contact one of the Academy Services Team who will be able to assist you if you have a safeguarding concern about a child at the school.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you must supervise carefully the devices your child uses in the home as this is your responsibility. At the same time if we can support you with advice or help, please contact one of the Services team.
