How can I help my child to be safe?

 

Technology is developing at such a fast pace. Children use phones, gaming devices and computers so much of the time, both at home and (with restrictions) in the school setting too. Whilst these devices are amazing, they also bring a range of security and safety issues, which, as protective and caring adults we need to be aware of.

 

When our children start a new club or activity we ask where the club is, what our child will do there and with whom.  We want to know they will be taking part in safe activities with trusted adults.

We need to ask the same questions every time our children use the internet, either on a tablet, a phone, a Switch, a laptop or a gaming system like the Xbox.  Ask your child…
 

  1. Where do you go online?  What sites do you visit? Are they age appropriate?

  2. Who do you talk to or play with online?

  3. What do you do online?  Are they chatting, sharing photos, uploading videos, playing games.


Regularly check what your child is doing or who they are interacting with.
